Ear-lobe and jaw rubdown (Fig. 31)

Technique: Rub the palms together slowly and firmly, holding them up at heart level, until warm. Clasp the ears firmly between the index and middle fingers of each hand, with your palms against the jawbone, and rub the fingers down along the ear lobes until the ears are released, then continue rubbing the index and middle fingers about halfway down the jawbone. Repeat at a fairly brisk rate one to two dozen times.

Benefits: This manoeuvre helps draw energy down out of the head and pushes it down the front of the body towards the abdomen. According to Chinese acupuncture therapy, all the vital organs and glands have sensitive energy points located in the shells and lobes of the ears. (It is therefore not a good idea to have one’s ears pierced.) This ear massage thus stimulates and balances internal organ energies.
